BCBA
An internationally certified behaviour analyst, qualified to design and supervise behaviour programmes. The certification is held by the individual, not by the centre that employs them.
Why a BCBA matters.
The distinction that matters to you: a centre advertising "BCBA-supervised" therapy may mean a analyst who writes the plan and reviews it weekly, or one who signs off forty children's plans a month and has never met yours. Both are describable using the same phrase.
Ask how much supervision your child's programme actually receives, in hours, and who provides it. A number is a real answer. "All our programmes are BCBA-supervised" is a brochure line.
Questions that get a real answer
- How many supervision hours a month does my child's programme get?
- Has the supervising analyst observed my child directly, and when?
- Who writes the plan, and who can change it?
Ask these of anyone, including us. What you are listening for is not the right answer — it is whether the answer is specific enough to be wrong.
